INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES

InTASC Standard 8: The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage learners to develop deep understanding of content areas and their connections, and to build skills to apply knowledge in meaningful ways.

Instructional strategies are methods that educators utilize to facilitate deep and meaningful understandings in their students. By implementing a variety of instructional strategies in my own classroom, I am providing my students with a wealth of resources and skills to add to their own proverbial toolboxes that will ensure they are successful in academic careers and life beyond. Using many different instructional strategies also ensures that learning is not only meaningful and strategic, but also enjoyable. Personal experience as well as research suggests that students learn better when they are having fun, an idea that is constantly in the back of my mind when planning the implementation of these strategies.

TECHNOLOGY

As our society becomes more technologically advanced and driven, it is imperative that teachers implement technology based lessons.

I implement lessons connected to technology as frequently as I can in my classroom, often on a weekly basis.

STUDENT LED

Student collaboration and empowerment is incredibly important in creating critically thinking, leadership oriented individuals.

Student collaboration plays a huge role in my classroom, and students understand expectations of being leaders as well as how to work as part of a group to accomplish a goal.

VISUAL LEARNING

In order to take advantage of as much instructional time as possible, effective educators utilize a variety of visual learning structures.

In consistently providing my students with various visual learning strategies, I am facilitating the development of organizational skills and interpretations of complex information to ensure student success.
