                METACOGNITION

Metacognition is the act of thinking about your thinking. It is the process of identifying a problem, planning for a solution, and reflecting upon and adjusting your actions accordingly. This is one of, if not the, most important habits for my students to develop before transitioning into middle school because it directly impacts every aspect of their academic lives.

Much like myself, students must plan for, reflect upon, and adjust their own behaviors and practices in order to meet whatever definition of success that they strive for.

LESSON THREE

In conclusion, by exposing my students to explicit examples, modeling, and practice of the Habit of Mindset of metacognition, I am facilitating their growth in organization and self reflection that will be incredibly beneficial to their academic and professional lives beyond elementary school.

In creating lessons that gradually release student accountability and responsibility into their own hands, I am facilitating a meaningful and organic movement from being casual observers of their own educations to active participants, and oftentimes, powerful captains of their ship in the sea of knowledge.
